Thursday we sat around their house anxiously trying to hear something on our neighborhood and hoping we could go home soon.
Finally around lunch time, we got word no flood, praise the lord, what a relief. About an hour later we heard we could go back home - yeah!
So Thursday afternoon, we cleaned up around the house a little, outside. With no power, there wasn't much we could do inside and it was cooler outside than inside. We got the generator going and were able to save our freezer full of meat and our refrigerator. But we knew we'd need to get more gas for Friday. So, we ventured out Thursday night for gas and the off chance of finding something to eat.
We lucked out and a local seafood place was up and running on a generator. A/C, ice cold drinks, and hot food at that point this point we were in heaven. We found some gas and headed home to sweat it out and boy did we.
There is no doubt when I'm pregnant I generate heat. I'm always hot! I'm always getting comments from people about summer pregnancy and I'm like, it's not too bad, i just stay in the A/C. Well, when the A/C is gone - it's HOT!
We got the kids down, took cold showers, and each got ice packs to sleep with. Justin went to our bed and I stayed in the recliner next to the window, praying for a breeze. Just two nights earlier I was praying for the wind to stop! It was a another long hot night, but I did get some sleep because I was exhausted from two nights of almost no sleep.
Friday we found out a local jump house had power back so we took the kids to play. We all enjoyed the A/C and I caught up on work.
Friday afternoon we worked out in the yard some more and got it looking fairly good considering. And late Friday night we got an email returned for Entergy saying it would be 2-3 wks until power was restored to our neighborhood. This was a major blow. Could we keep the generator going on the freezer that long, did we want too?? We talked about it and decided to cut our losses. We threw out most of the things in fridge and packed up all the freezer in coolers and headed to Mobile around 8:30 Friday night. We figured we could all use some a/c and relaxation away from the craziness in NOLA.
