Camp out

Tuesday nights camp out.

The Waiting Game

DSC_0601

So Monday night we went to bed anticipating a long rainy day ahead of us.  Tuesday drug on and on, waiting for the storm to build.  We had some wind and lots of rain but nothing worse than some of our summer rain storms we’ve been having.  The weather reporters were making such a big deal it was becoming amusing – I kept saying, it’s just a tropical storm, your blowing it out of proportion.

Our perpetrations included cranking down the deep freezer, refrigerator and a/c’s anticipating power loss.  The kids helped put all outside things in the river shack so they wouldn’t blow away.  We found out Sunday we needed to watch what we discussed in front of the kids because Logan started getting concerned, asking if our house was going to blow away.  Kids don’t need to worry about these things.

Tuesday afternoon, Justin and the boys were outside playing in the wind and rain but by evening the wind was picking up.  We told the kids they could have a slumber party and put them all in Elizabeth’s front bedroom which has the smallest window.  Shortly before putting them to bed the power flickered out after teasing us several times prior to this. Luckily the kids all passed out quickly because the winds really started picking up around 9 that night.  We attempted to go to bed around 11 I think.  The wind was pounding the back windows, along with pounds of Spanish moss and acorns.  There was this constant hum.  By 2 am neither of us had slept much and decided we’d move to the other front bed rooms and attempt to get an hr or two of sleep.

I went to the boys room and Justin went to Jackson room where we had a spare mattress laid out from Teresa’s visit that weekend.  I laid there, praying it would end, constantly checking the radar, thinking it should blow over by now, but it just kept going and going.  Around 4 am I saw we were now under a tornado watch.  Great – tornado watch combined with a constant hum of winds – I was scared – but at this point scared does no good.  I went and laid in the bed in Elizabeth’s room.  They were all in a tent so it didn’t disturb them at all.  I just kept praying to get us through the night.  There’s just something about a storm like that in the dark and you can’t see anything but pitch black outside.

The kids woke up around 6:30am and by that time the worst of it was over.  It was still windy and rainy but not nearly as bad.  We all ran around the windows assessing the damage.  Front fence down on both sides of the house, and back fence down from neighbors play set falling over.  All and all not nearly as bad as it sounded.  Our entire yard had a layer of spanish moss on it.  All three doors had taken in some water just from it blowing up against them but no carpet in this house so no problem.   Thank you God for answered prayers.  It was over and all was well.

God’s Promise

** I’m going to try to recap our crazy week with Isaac so I have it documented.

DSC_0599

So, by Sunday night we had an idea that this storm Isaac was being forecast more and more our way.  I went to bed Sunday night thinking there was a high probability we’d be evacuated Monday.  If that happened we knew we’d go to Houston to wait it out and Justin can work from Houston.  When Justin got up Monday morning the first words I said is, are we evacuating, do I need to pack.  Nope, they evacuated south of us but not us.  At this point we still weren’t very concerned because they kept saying it would most  likely be a cat 1 at land fall.  Been there done that, not a big deal.  Last labor day was spent inside as Tropical storm Lee blew threw.  We did have concerns with power loss though so Monday when it was clear we were staying I went to get a generator.

Called around and at this point most places were out.  Lowes said they were getting a shipment in at 10am.  The kids were out of school and Justin was at work trying to get that squared away.  We showed up at 10 til 10 and got in line. Turns out we were about 47 in line!  But they said they would get about 120 generators so I’m thinking it’s worth a little wait.  An hour later, the kids are getting anxious and hungry, and baby Jackson is doing jumping jacks on my bladder.  Not sure how much longer we can make it but I hate to have wasted all this time for not.  So we keep waiting…at 12:15 they finally tell us the truck is lost!  But we’ll take your name and number and call you when they come in.   I’m thinking yeah, right.  And I’ve got some ocean front property to sell you too!  But let my name and number none the less.

By Monday evening wind is picking up a little and people are busy getting things put up and and secured.  We went on a walk in the neighborhood to expend some energy know tomorrow we’d be on lock down inside.  Around 7:30 the phones rings, you guessed it Lowes, we’ve got a generator for you.  You have 30 min to pick it up before we give it to someone else.  Justin jumped in the car right away seeing it’s about 20 miles from our house.  The two plus hours of waiting that morning didn’t go to waste.  We now had a generator but still hoped we wouldn’t have to use it.

While Justin was at Lowes that night, I walked some trash outside and saw this beautiful double full rainbow.  My neighbor drove by and said it’s that a beautiful sign God has sent!

School Update

DSC_0595

Logan’s first day at OLPH.  He was extremely happy to be going to school with his big sister!  He’s been waiting ever since he turned 4 last Dec!!  This picture makes Mommy sad because he looks like such a big boy.

The excitement!  Dressed and ready to go with 30 mins to spare.

Not so excited about pictures once we got to school!

No worries, my big sister will take care of me!  We got indirect reports through Elizabeth from both his teachers.  He’s doing great and all because Elizabeth has told him everything he needs to know!!

He really did have a good week, but it was only half days.  This week we’ll hope it goes as good with full days.  The picky eater of the family is excited about going to the cafeteria.  Kept asking all week if he had a whole day.

Elizabeth is finding her grove in 1st grade.  Two weeks 3 tests and 3 quizzes behind her already.  Trying to figure out the rules of not talking and realizing you don’t get all the warning you did in years past.  Has a big kid desk instead of group tables and learning we don’t share everything (test answers) with our friends despite being told to share share share for the past 6 yrs of their lives.  And book covers and real text books made it real for Mom too.  We have a big girl on our hands.

PreK orientation

Logan was up and dressed at 7 for his 10:30 orientation. He said to me, and your only staying a little bit, right Mom. Well, neither of us are staying more than 15 mins bud.

He is more than excited to start half days next week and go to school with his big sister!

28 weeks

How far along? 28 weeks

Baby's Size? Chinese cabage - 2.25 lbs and 16 inches

Weight Gain? 20 lbs to date

Maternity clothes? Oh yes!

Stretch marks? No new ones.

Belly Button in or out? Flat

Sleeping? A few nights of insomnia...can't turn the brain off!  Justin's sleep is going down hill.  Apparently when i do sleep i toss and turn and according to him snore (not so sure about that!)
Foods I am loving? Never a big cereal fan but seems to be go to lately - morning and night. Foods I'm hating? As always... nothing!

Movement? Lots of it and some of it's getting uncomfortable to mommy.  All three kids try to "play" with the baby.  They think they can't "play" with out pulling my shirt up to "see" baby Jackson.  If i'm not careful, they try this out in public. NO, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN KIDS!!

Best moment this week? Luke talking about his baby brother Jackson.  If i tell him he's my baby he says no baby Jackson.  Cute and sad all at the same time.  We got to meet a friends 2 wk old this week and he showed alot of interest in the baby so that's a positive sign!

Symptoms? A little foot swelling when i've been on my feet alot.  Hot...pregnancy in Aug in LA...AC is my friend.
Gender? It's a boy! My words as the dr was scanning, " is that what I think it is". She just started laughing! We asked Elizabeth to read what she had type and she read "I'm a boy". Logan was a little confused and said, " but I wanted a sister".

What I miss ? Laying on my stomach...both sleeping and getting on the floor with the kids.

What I'm looking forward to? When it's your fourth it's really just meeting your baby at this point and knowing it's healthy!

Emotions: Anxious...time is flying by!

Side Note: Did my glucose test today.  Will find out results in a couple days.  I was starving to death by 1 when i got out of the office but amazingly I never felt like my blood sugar was too low.
