Bat Baby

At the beginning of the summer luke started sleeping in Logan's room in the big boy bed. He did fairly well with no issues until...

The past couple weeks he started sleeping on the floor and then he found this extra mattress we had laid out in baby Jackson's room ( Luke's old room).

He has slept in there now a few nights. Well, he decided he would change closes before going to sleep. He went in baby Jackson's closet and helped himself.

He managed to make a 3m onesie fit, well sort of

Show us your Singles

Ok, so my brother and sister in law are going to kill me but…I’ve seen this more than once and keep saying I’m going to do it so here it goes.  If you keep up with mommy blogs at all you may have heard of Kelly’s Korner.  It’s a personal blog that has gone viral to say the least. We’ll some time ago she came up with show me your singles.  Basically you link your blog with info about a friend or family member who is single by chance the right person may come across it.  Yeah, it’s a long shot I know but sounded like fun none the less.

So with our further to do…Uncle Bry Bry.  My baby brother,  Bryant.  We grew up in Naples FL.  He’s 32 and recently moved back to Tallahassee, FL.  I say moved back since he’s an FSU grad but we don’t hold that against him, lol.

We don’t see him nearly enough.  You’ll noticed the kids varying age in the photos.  But I really don’t have too many pics of him without the kids.  He tries to meet up with us as much as possible and he’s great at playing with the kids.

Puzzle boy

This boy is puzzle crazy…I turn my back and he’s put together Buzz all by himself.  He has a couple other 30 and 40 count wood puzzles he puts together in no time.  It amazes us.  I’m pretty sure he’s memorized where each piece goes because he just studies the piece and then puts it right together.

Fall is in the air

We have stayed out of the 90’s the past couple weeks which has been a welcome relief.  It also means time to get the fall garden in the ground.  Kids had fun mixing the dirt!  They took turns raking and stomping.

We planted broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, cabbage carrots and snow peas or at least that’s what I remember.  I didn’t help much more than keeping the seat warm and taking pictures!

The count down

to the fair.  Have I mentioned lately it’s fair time?  We’ll if you don’t live in NOLA you probably don’t quite get it – we didn’t two years ago but my how things have changed!

We are knee deep in planning and it’s getting down to the wire.  I joke though, every thought the past few weeks seems to be focused on the fair.  I’m like the fair will be over in a week but we are going to have a new family member in just a few weeks!  Makes the fair very trivial despite it’s importance to our church and school.

32 weeks

How far along? 32 weeks and 3 days

Baby's Size? Honeydew, 19 in and 4.5lbs

Weight Gain? 24 lbs to date

Maternity clothes? Oh yes!  Having to make sure the tummy is covered.  And I have a helper who is sure to tell me, "Mommy, I can see your tummy!".

Stretch marks? No new ones.

Belly Button in or out? The turkey timer is starting to pop
Sleeping? Going down hill.  Getting where I just struggle to get comfortable.  Constantly tossing and turning.  Have slept in the recliner a few times.  And the bladder is starting to ramp up at night.
Foods I am loving? Nothing special lately.  Lots of water though - I think it's been the heat
Foods I'm hating? As always... nothing!

Movement? Yes.  Elizabeth loves poking around my stomach trying to guess what she's feeling.  Eventually I usually get tired of the poking and have to tell her to give Jackson a break!

Best moment this week?

Symptoms? Bathroom is my favorite room these days.  I'm usually one to go hours without going but not anymore.  Especially if I sit for an extended amount of time, then when i do stand up I have to make a be line for the restroom.
Gender? It's a boy! My words as the dr was scanning, " is that what I think it is". She just started laughing! We asked Elizabeth to read what she had type and she read "I'm a boy". Logan was a little confused and said, " but I wanted a sister".

What I miss ? Sushi, raw oysters, seared tuna...

What I'm looking forward to? Getting the fair behind us so we can focus on baby coming!

Emotions: Less than eight weeks until the due date.  I keep thinking because I feel so big I'll go earlier this time but we'll see.  The diabetes was a big part of why I was induced 10 days early with Luke so unless some other health issue arises Nov 1 could come and go.

Side Note: I failed the one hour glucose test so I had to take the three hour test.  But good news is I passed the three hour test so no gestational diabetes this time around!  What a relief - cookies, ice cream, oh my!

Happy grandparents Day

Well, I'm a complete slacker and didn't get cards in the mail to any of our grandparents.

Happy Grandparents Day to our grandmothers, Roberta, Pearl and Dorris.

And to papa and Mimi and Handy Papa and Grammy. Happy grandparents day from Elizabeth, Logan, Luke and Jackson!

We love each of you and you each hold a special place in our hearts.

Fair 2012

OLPH2012 logo red

So it’s also fair time.  We have been busy planning the fair all year long but now, only three weeks out, we are in full gear.  Today was our first work day.  So that’s what we’ll be doing the next three weekends.  And then after we get through the fair we can have a baby!!!!

War Eagle

Its that time of year again…college football.

DSC_0615

We didn’t have much to cheer about today but it wasn’t because we didn’t sport our Auburn attire in LSU country!  The kids had a uniform pass yesterday and sported their orange and blue to support our tigers.

DSC_0608

Luke wanted to be front and center and Logan wanted to show me his “orange and blue” tiles.

And Elizabeth was exited about wearing mom’s AU earing this year!  Don’t think I’ll get those back.

Round Two

So Monday we prepared to head home, electricity or not.  Daddy had to go to work and the kids had to go to school.  Knowing it was going to be hot we headed to Home Depot in search for an A/C.  We found a decent looking portable one that said it handled 300 sqft.  We figured we could all pile in a room and survive through the night with that.

We loaded up Monday after lunch, Luke passed out before we were out of town, and we headed back.  After almost three full days of being closed up in a hot house the refrigerator had a complete funk!  Justin took on the fun job of black bagging that all up, while I worked on empting the car.  After a couple hours at home with no a/c we decide a dinner in a/c and trip to the gas station was in store.  By this time, there were several options for dinner and no longer long gas lines.  Most people had their electricity back – this is one draw back to living “outside” of the city.  Some call it rural…I wouldn’t go that far but we like it none the less.  Less populated areas are last on the list to be fixed, plus in this case we were also closer to the area that took the brunt of the wind damage.

By the time we got home it was dark, so flashlights in hand we made everyone beds in our room.  We went light on clothing since it was still reading 80 in our room even with the portable a/c.  You could tell it was cooler than the rest of the house after running 4+ hours but it still wasn’t the same as having real a/c.  After getting them to bed, I grabbed a water bottle and laid in bed – it was just too hot to do much else in the house.  Justin and I dosed on and off, and then at one point Justin got back up to check on the refrigerator.  We were waiting for it to cool down before unloading our cooler.  When he opened the door it almost look light in the play room – was I seeing things, in my half asleep state??  No – it was light – our power was back!!  We both snuck out of the bed room and happily started cleaning up a few things…unplugging things from the generator, turn a/cs on, and letting the house cool off before really going to bed.

DSC_0605

Luke found this “hole” to sleep in early in the evening and stayed there all night.  Logan had to be woken up at 7:45 to make it to school!

DSC_0606

With the fan on and house a/c back on, E froze to death.

Tuesday it was nice to be able to do laundry and clean.  A week later we are still playing catch up but were almost there.  The positives are the frig is clean than it’s been since we bought it.  Only things we use for now until random items collect again.  The back porch got a great power washing thanks to Justin.

It was quite an adventurous week for us but nothing compared to some.  We have a couple families at school that lost everything.  I can’t even begin to imagine.  We are very thankful we were spared the worst of it.

Captain Logan

Monday morning Justin's, his dad, Elizabeth and Logan took a boat ride to round out our Labor Day!

Captain Elizabeth

And why not enjoy a boat ride on Labor day while we were "vacationing".

I laughed because we showed up at Justin's parents with two over flowing baskets of laudry.  It felt like we were back college.  Only back in college that much laudry would be a months worth.  A family of five's clothes for a week, plus towels (lots of extra showers when it's so HOT), and lots of towels at the doors from the rain blowing in.

So we spent Sat doing laundry and watching college football, and I squeezed in a pedicure!!

Aftermath

Thursday we sat around their house anxiously trying to hear something on our neighborhood and hoping we could go home soon.

Finally around lunch time, we got word no flood, praise the lord, what a relief.  About an hour later we heard we could go back home - yeah!

So Thursday afternoon, we cleaned up around the house a little, outside.  With no power, there wasn't much we could do inside and it was cooler outside than inside.  We got the generator going and were able to save our freezer full of meat and our refrigerator.  But we knew we'd need to get more gas for Friday.  So, we ventured out Thursday night for gas and the off chance of finding something to eat.

We lucked out and a local seafood place was up and running on a generator.  A/C, ice cold drinks, and hot food at that point this point we were in heaven.  We found some gas and headed home to sweat it out and boy did we.

There is no doubt when I'm pregnant I generate heat.  I'm always hot!  I'm always getting comments from people about summer pregnancy and I'm like, it's not too bad, i just stay in the A/C.  Well, when the A/C is gone - it's HOT!

We got the kids down, took cold showers, and each got ice packs to sleep with.  Justin went to our bed and I stayed in the recliner next to the window, praying for a breeze.  Just two nights earlier I was praying for the wind to stop!  It was a another long hot night, but I did get some sleep because I was exhausted from two nights of almost no sleep.

Friday we found out a local jump house had power back so we took the kids to play.  We all enjoyed the A/C and I caught up on work.

Friday afternoon we worked out in the yard some more and got it looking fairly good considering.  And late Friday night we got an email returned for Entergy saying it would be 2-3 wks until power was restored to our neighborhood.  This was a major blow.  Could we keep the generator going on the freezer that long, did we want too??  We talked about it and decided to cut our losses.  We threw out most of the things in fridge and packed up all the freezer in coolers and headed to Mobile around 8:30 Friday night.  We figured we could all use some a/c and relaxation away from the craziness in NOLA.

Round two

So Wednesday we were hanging out all morning, trying to stay cool.  Around lunch time we hear a knock at the door.  Who in the world is at our door?? Neither of us where dressed appropriately to answer the door but after seeing our two young nieghbor girls Justin sent me to the door.  Upon answering the door, they said, "mom just sent us down to make sure you all heard they evacuating our neighborhood."  Say what!?!  Yeah, we are loaded up and leaving shortly.

They leave and Justin and I look at each other like what now??  We start searching our phones for information on this last minute evacuation.  We know the weather is still bad north of us, not exactly travel weather.  Phones and text are limited at this point from damaged towers.  Within ten minutes, another knock at the door.  This time we at least had clothes on to open the door.  It's a our friend Joey, who also happens to be a state trooper.  Him and a buddy where going door to door with a school bus following to make sure everyone got out.  This confirmed the need to leave.  He said we could drive out ourselves without problem so that's what we planned to do.  He said we have about an hour.  They were afraid the canal behind our house was going to crest and flood our neighborhood.

I'm thinking to myself, great, we survived this crazy night with no damage and now we are going to flood.  My heart sunk.  We had to put a game plan together though so there was no time to worry.  I packed suitcases for us all in about 10 minutes.  Got the important paper box, a bag of snacks, and a pile of blankets and pillows.  Piled the car full and pulled out not knowing what we'd return to.

We found out our local YMCA had just opened as a shelter so we went and parked there to work on a plan.  A friend texted us to check on us and said we could go to their house, they weren't there, there was no power, but it was safe.  I said thanks for the offer but we are good now.   Luke fell asleep in the car so we sat there for quite some time letting him sleep.  It was still raining and strong gusts.  More and more people were showing up and we decided we better head in to have a "spot".  After sitting inside for about an hour it began to sink in we wouldn't be going home tonight.  And the thought of staying overnight in the Y with the kids was not a good one.  Lets just say the mix of people wasn't the greatest.  So, I texted our friend back and asked if the offer was still open to their house.  They graciously said yes, we'll meet you there to open it up for you.

Once there, they pulled in behind us and said hey, the friends we are staying with offered their home, if you want to come over.  They have a generator and lots of kids running around.  We hesitated but they insisted so we went and crashed for the night at a friend of a friend.

The kids had a great time playing, there were 11 kids and 7 adults that night.  It was hot that night, at one point i was ready to run out in the rain, but it wasn't the Y shelter and I knew my kids were sleeping soundly.

We can't say how greatful we are that these strangers opened their house to us.
